The NIE Library and Information Services Centre seeks a forward-thinking and technically skilled Librarian to join our team. This role is pivotal in enhancing the accessibility and effectiveness of library resources through innovative metadata practices and automation.   • Maintain, administer and enhance metadata creation in MARC.
  • Streamline, innovate and automate the work processes involving metadata exchange across library applications and systems.
  • Develop data analytics reports and dashboards to enable data-driven decision-making and work process improvements.
  • Develop scripts to streamline metadata maintenance activities, including cleaning and enhancement of metadata.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing procedures for original and copy cataloguing of all resources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to co-create the Library’s collection development guidelines.
  • Lead and manage project teams effectively, ensuring timely completion of projects that align with the librarys strategic goals.
General and liaison duties
  • Foster communication between the Library and designated Academic Groups.
  • Participate in collection development, including identifying, evaluating and recommending library resources.
  • Liaise with NIE community to recruit content for the NIE data and digital repository.
  • Communicate, plan and deliver library events and promotional activities.
  • Provide information desk services on scheduled evenings and weekends.
  • Contribute to library projects, peer training and staff development.
Requirements
  • A University degree and a recognised postgraduate qualification in Library and/or Information Science, preferably with a background in cataloguing and metadata creation.
  • At least 5 years of professional working experience in cataloguing and classification across various formats in an academic or research library setting.
  • The applicant must have experience with RDA, the Library of Congress Classification Schedules, cataloguing in OCLC and MARCEdit.
  • Working proficiency in Chinese, Malay or Tamil Cataloguing will be an asset.
  • Knowledge or experience in Library Services Platforms like Alma and Primo would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing automation projects using tools such as robotic process automation and programming languages such as Python will be an added advantage.
  • Good interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and innovatively with library colleagues, NIE and external communities.
  • A keen learner who is adaptable, innovative and able to work independently and in a team.
